Lost Property Policy

Redline Buses and Red Rose Travel will make reasonable efforts to reunite passengers with property left on our vehicles or premises. We cannot guarantee that lost property will be found or returned.

If you lose something

Contact us as soon as possible. Where possible, tell us:

  • which operator you travelled with
  • route number
  • date
  • approximate time
  • where you boarded
  • where you left the bus
  • a detailed description of the item
  • any distinguishing features

Please do not send passwords, PIN numbers or unnecessary sensitive information.

If you find something

Please hand property found onboard to the driver. If an item appears dangerous, suspicious or unlawful, do not handle it unnecessarily. Tell the driver or another member of staff immediately.

Claiming an item

We need to take reasonable steps to make sure property is returned to its owner. We may therefore ask a claimant to:

  • describe the item
  • identify distinguishing features
  • provide identification
  • unlock an electronic device without telling us the passcode
  • provide other evidence of ownership

Collection and return

Lost property will normally need to be collected from the location where it is stored unless we agree another arrangement. We may charge reasonable postage, delivery or administration costs where appropriate. Any charge will be explained before the item is returned.

Retention

Ordinary non-perishable lost property will normally be retained for one month. Items that are perishable, unhygienic, dangerous or unsuitable for storage may be disposed of sooner.

Bank cards, identity documents and sensitive items

Bank cards, passports, driving licences, official documents, medication and other sensitive items may be dealt with differently for security reasons. This may include returning an item to its issuer, passing it to an appropriate authority or securely destroying it where appropriate.

Cash

Cash will be recorded and held securely. A claimant will be required to provide sufficient information to establish ownership.

Electronic devices

We will not access the contents of a phone, tablet, laptop or similar device except where lawful and genuinely necessary. We may use limited information displayed on a locked screen where appropriate to help identify or contact the owner.

Unclaimed property

After the applicable retention period, unclaimed items may be:

  • securely destroyed
  • recycled
  • donated to charity
  • otherwise disposed of appropriately

Personal information

Information collected during a lost-property enquiry will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Notice.
